Reise (pronounced like Liza) is a doula, educator, event planner, yoga instructor, writer and world traveler based in San Francisco. Her diverse interests inform her integrative approach to healing, yoga, birth, spirituality and to life. A passion for building community, education, advocacy, women's issues, ritual and life passages inspired her to become a doula. She completed prenatal and postpartum doula training at Natural Resources, Heart & Hands Midwifery Intensive with Elizabeth Davis and Advanced Doula Training with Gloria Lemay. She is an official Birthing From Within Mentor and as a doula employs various methods and techniques to support, inform and comfort women and their families throughout the birth process.
She believes every woman and her partner deserve compassionate, non-judgmental care and strives to meet them wherever they are. Her philosophy is that every birth is sacred, regardless of external factors, and that all women have the right to respect, dignity and informed consent. She is grateful to all the mothers and their families who have been her teachers about birth and helped light the way.

Reise has been practicing and studying yoga for 10 years. At an early age, she discovered the enlivening power of movement through dance and gymnastics, later helping others to find that connection as a certified fitness instructor and personal trainer. She has studied various styles of yoga with many teachers, including Ana Forrest, Sharon Gannon, Gary Kraftsow, David Life, Judith Lasater, Sarah Powers, Max Strom, Rod Stryker, Rusty Wells, and her main teacher, Shiva Rea. Reise's classes are a blend of yogic philosophy, energetic alignment, awareness of breath, mindfulness, eclectic music, self exploration and playful discovery.
Reise is currently finishing her M.A. in Humanities. She has taught a wide variety of subjects from drama and visual art to social issues and religious studies.
In her spare time, she enjoys being with her life-partner (an emergency room nurse and paramedic), hiking and being in nature, making art, listening to world music, cooking, watching independent films, reading, taking all kinds of classes and travel--recently to Thailand where she was certified in Thai Massage. |
